Go Guys!  Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is a program designed to address the physical activity, balanced eating and positive self-image needs of boys 10-14 years based on a group mentoring model.  It is delivered by trained male volunteers who are supervised by professional caseworkers.  Each mentor has 4-6 boys in his group.  This program is funded in part by a generous grant from

The program consists of 8 mentoring sessions conducted over a 7-10 week period. Each session is 1.5 - 2 hours in length and is held at lunch and/or after school, within school facilities.  Through the selection of more non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy food preparation, the mentor and boys develop positive relationships and peer support.  Each of the 8 mandatory sessions will consist of 2 physical activity games.

The main goal of the Go Guys! Program is to develop an appreciation of the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle among boys. In addition, the program strives to achieve the following key objectives:

  • To support boys and young men in choosing to maintain a healthy active lifestyle;
  • To provide boys and young men with the tools and information they need to choose to lead and maintain a healthy lifestyle;
  • To enhance competence, confidence and self esteem of boys and young men regarding healthy active living; and
  • To build the leadership and life skills of all program participants.

As a secondary objective, Go Guys! endeavours to develop capacity in our community and to contribute to sustainable support systems for boys.
